Rockaway Theatre Company

p_0004

My first production I was in when I made it to New York was in Crimes Of The Heart directed by Peggy Press. I was cast as Lenny the older sister who owned the house and was the heart of the sisters. It was an amazing cast, production, and theatre that I will always treasure as my first experience in New York. Even though it isn’t BROADWAY the amazing talent and quality behind the work is equivalent.

Since the theatre is located in Fort Tilden all the way out by the water when hurricane Sandy hit they were hit hard. They are coming back with a vengeance and could use some assistance in fund raising. I loved the theatre and the way everyone treated each other like family. It was a home and it deserves to be rectified.

I am happy to share that they are having their annual Rockaway Cafe Production starting July 19th and I highly recommend visiting the theatre or donating to their cause. I did! Look for New York Broadway Tours at their special intermission raffle and 50/50 drawings!

For 10 years, the Rockaway Theatre Company (RTC) has produced a special, one-of-a-kind show that has entertained the Rockaway Community. We call it ?Rockaway Caf??. This is a production where singers and dancers come together and showcase their talents in a musical revue type setting. Selections often include selections by artists such as the Charlie Daniels Band to Lady Gaga and The Temptations to CCR and everything in between. Come out this July and have some fun with the RTC Cast and Crew at our Rockin? Reopening Celebration?Rockaway Caf? ? The Comeback!

The Rockaway Theatre Company, Inc. is a not-for- profit NYS 501C3 organization located at Fort Tilden in The National Park Service Gateway National Recreation Area. We strive to improve the quality of life for residents of Rockaway and surrounding communities by bringing them live quality entertainment at a nominal cost. Over the course of the last fourteen years, we have earned a reputation as the best that community theater has to offer.
During our tenure at our present location we have been proud to offer full season line-ups of professional quality theatrical productions to the members of our community each year at very reasonable prices. We also provide opportunities for performers of all ages to showcase their talents.
Our Young People?s Theatre Workshops are extremely popular. They are open to children between the ages of 6 and 18. In class, youngsters learn the ins and outs of theatrical production and develop and hone their dramatic skills. There are usually 30 sessions culminating in a full scale musical theater production performed for audiences by workshop students on our main stage. In addition, we offer evening adult workshops in dance, acting, musical theatre and theatre tech. Classes offered in our theater are taught by licensed educators and professionals in various areas of instruction. They are offered to the community as a public service and tuition is nominal as our Company assumes the bulk of the operating costs In an attempt to keep our ticket prices affordable for our patrons, we have instituted a reduced-price season subscription and reduced-price tickets for seniors and children.

Our community service efforts include free performances, both in our theater and in various other sites, to benefit North Shore Animal League America, The Children?s Diabetes Foundation, Rockaway and Brooklyn Chambers of Commerce, NYPD 100th Precinct Community Council, The Addabbo Family Health Center, Gateway National Recreation Area and many other worthy institutions.

Unfortunately, we were forced to bring our activities at the Post Theatre to an abrupt halt at the end of October, 2012 when our theater was ravaged by superstorm Sandy. We suffered many devastating losses including irreparable damage to our seats, our equipment, our lighting, amplifiers, microphones, musical instruments, etc. The replacement of most of these items was not covered by our insurance. Much of our house, stage and dressing room areas were underwater for a significant amount of time which necessitates massive commercial dry out and mold treatment before our building can be deemed safe for both adults and children to resume activities. The cost of this mold remediation, building renovation and equipment replacement is astronomical and we have already suffered major financial losses due to prolonged cancellation of previously scheduled programs.

At this point, we have been denied any federal or state grants which we have sought in an effort to cover these expenses. We are appealing to the public and to various charitable groups to assist us in bringing our theater back to the level of a safe, operational cultural institution.

We are gratified to observe that our audiences have grown steadily over the past fourteen years and we are anxious to have the opportunity to, once again, offer quality entertainment and educational services to our ever increasing public, hopefully in the very near future. Now, more than ever, Rockaway residents need the joy of live theater in their lives.

Please help us bring it to them.

June updates!

It has been an amazing 6 months! We are creating connections, collecting testimonials left and right, and most importantly giving great tours! New ones are on the horizon so stay posted to the calendar! Did you notice we now are working with Zerve?

getinfo_mobile_long-light

They help by being there for customers from 8am-midnight every single day, they send reminder emails to tour guides as well as help keep reviews real by only allowing ticketed guests leave reviews. You get the real deal when working with them. It’s very exciting. As some of you know I, Amada Anderson run this business by myself and having a company like Zerve out there looking out for me has already released many worries that I as the tour guide and tour operator have to worry about. So thank you to them!

As you may have noticed we now have 2 separate musical theatre tours, a full 2 hour matinee musical theatre Times Square tour, A GLEE Broadway FAN tour, A Greenwich Village Piano Bar Pub Crawl, A Grand Central Music of the city tour, and an off Broadway walking tour. Yeah… it’s been a busy 6 months but we now offer every single tour at least once a month so I hope you will get a chance to take advantage and enjoy them!

As always thank you for choosing New York Broadway Tours. I look forward to singing and dancing with you down Broadway!!!

Sincerely,
Amada Anderson
